According to Draft Insider’s Tony Pauline “just about everybody believes” that the Colts will sign Anthony Hitchens in free agency.
The Colts have been connected to free agent linebacker Anthony Hitchens ever since they hired former Cowboys linebackers coach Matt Eberflus as their defensive coordinator.
Eberflus has been Hitchens’ coach since Dallas drafted him in the fourth round in 2014. Hitchens really struggled during his first three seasons in the league, but he’s developed nicely under Eberflus and he’s coming off of a career year with the Cowboys.
Hitchens is only 25 years old, and it would be exciting to see him continue his development under Eberflus in Indianapolis.
With Jon Bostic becoming a free agent and the tragic death of Edwin Jackson, the Colts don’t have a starting-caliber linebacker on their roster heading into the offseason. General manager Chris Ballard could continue to add young talent while acquiring a day one starter by signing Anthony Hitchens as a free agent.
I’d expect a deal to get done shortly after the free agency period begins next week.
