The Colts could be in the market for a cornerback in free agency, and Morris Claiborne is one of the most intriguing defensive backs available.
During his NFL Combine press conference Chris Ballard suggested that the Colts will let the market dictate Rashaan Melvin’s value in free agency. If Indianapolis is unwilling to pay market value for Melvin, they may be looking for his replacement in free agency.
Morris Claiborne has had an interesting career since he was taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Claiborne had a solid rookie year in Dallas, but he followed that up with three extremely disappointing seasons. He had the best season of his career in the final year of his contract in 2016, but his season was cut short after seven games.
NFL teams were still unconvinced that Claiborne could repeat that performance, so he only got a one-year $5 million deal from the Jets last offseason.
He struggled in New York last season, and he has found his way to the free agent market once again this offseason. Even though he’s flashed some talent, I don’t think Morris Claiborne is worth taking a chance on in free agency.
