2018 Colts Possible Free Agent Targets: Guard Justin Pugh
By Andrew Ites
The Colts desperately need an upgrade at offensive guard this offseason, and free agent Justin Pugh may be able to provide that.
With Jack Mewhort set to be a free agent, the Colts may be facing a total rebuild at the guard position.
Luckily, there will be a few quality guards on the free agent market this offseason, and one of those available players is Justin Pugh.
When healthy, Pugh is capable of playing at a Pro Bowl level. According to Pro Football Focus, Pugh earned a grade of 84.5 and 82.5 on a 100-point scale in 2015 and 2016 after moving from right tackle to left guard.
Unfortunately, Pugh struggled with injuries in 2017 and was given an ugly overall grade of 52.4 by Pro Football Focus while playing in only 8 games.
Durability has been a major issue for Pugh he hasn’t played a full 16-game season since his rookie year in 2013, and he’s only played in 19 games combined over the past two years.
While Pugh would likely be an upgrade over the Colts’ current group of unproven guards on the roster, Andrew Norwell and Josh Sitton would be better options for Chris Ballard to go after in free agency.
