The Colts need to upgrade the right tackle position on the opposite side of Anthony Castonzo this offseason. Could signing Nate Solder in free agency be a solution to that problem?
With Andrew Luck planning on making a return in 2018, improving the offensive line needs to be a top priority for general manager Chris Ballard this offseason. The Colts have plenty of resources to spend on that unit, but there are a limited amount of players available that they could bring in.
There are not very many high-level free agent offensive linemen available this offseason.
However, Nate Solder may hit the open market, and he has been a solid offensive tackle throughout his seven-year NFL career. He’s protected Tom Brady’s blind side for years in New England, and he is highly qualified to keep Andrew Luck upright in Indianapolis.
Solder’s connection with Josh McDaniels from his days with the Patriots could also make him a top target for the Colts.
The only issue that could give the front office pause in offering a contract to Nate Solder is that he has played on the left side of the offensive line for the majority of his career, and the Colts need a right tackle. Switching Solder to right tackle after seven years of playing on the left side would be a challenge, but the lack of free agent talent at that position may make him the Colts’ best option.
