The Colts have already hired a legendary defensive backs coach to Frank Reich’s staff, and now they’ve added another young coach to work with the secondary.

Frank Reich was put in a difficult situation in his first head coaching job. The Colts were the last NFL team to hire a head coach, and they had already signed contracts with multiple assistant coaches before Josh McDaniels decided to stay in New England.

Reich told the media that this situation has actually worked to the Colts’ benefit because they were able to take their time in putting together a staff with no other competition from NFL teams. Considering the circumstances, the Colts have compiled a very strong coaching staff.

The Colts have hired Alan Williams to coach the team’s young group of talented defensive backs, and he brings an incredible amount of experience to Indianapolis’ new coaching staff. With Williams primarily working with the safeties, the Colts have hired Jonathon Gannon to coach the cornerbacks in Indianapolis.

According to the Colts’ official website, Gannon has been coaching for the last 12 years spending the last 11 years working in the NFL.

Gannon’s most recent coaching job was with the Vikings where he spent the last four seasons working as the team’s assistant defensive backs/quality control coach. Minnesota has built one of the league’s best defenses during Gannon’s tenure, and the Vikings have produced two Pro Bowlers in the secondary with Xavier Rhodes and Harrison Smith becoming elite players.

Gannon and Williams will form a dynamic coaching duo, and they should do a great job in developing the talent that Chris Ballard has acquired in the secondary.
