The Colts will be looking for an upgrade at inside linebacker this offseason, and Paul Posluszny could come in and transform Indianapolis’ defense right away.
We’ve identified the inside linebacker position as one of the biggest needs for the Colts in 2018, and luckily there are some solid options available this offseason.
NaVarro Bowman is a possible fit in free agency, and Paul Posluszny could fill a similar role as a veteran who is capable of playing at a high level right away.
Posluszny has had an interesting NFL career since coming out of Penn State in 2007.
He played four very solid seasons in Buffalo before moving to Jacksonville in 2011. He’s been inconsistent during his time with the Jaguars, but he’s played some of the best football of his career over the past two seasons.
At 33 years old, it’s hard to see Posluszny continuing to play at a high level too much longer. However, he could provide an immediate answer to one of the Colts’ major problems from last season, and possibly act as a mentor for any young linebackers Chris Ballard decides to bring in alongside him this offseason.
Posluszny made about $5 million per year in his last contract with Jacksonville, and there’s no doubt that his next contract will come at a lower price. If Chris Ballard can convince Posluszny to come to Indianapolis on a one or two-year deal worth around $2 million a year, I think that would be a move worth making for the Colts.
