The most urgent needs Colts must still address in free agency
Several free agency moves have already been made throughout the NFL but the Indianapolis Colts still have a lot of things they need to address.
It’s been one week since the official start of free agency, a week and two days if you consider the legal tampering period. In that time frame, the Indianapolis Colts have made several moves. They’ve released Matt Ryan, traded Stephon Gilmore, lost Parris Campbell and Bobby Okereke, and also signed several players. However, the Colts still have a lot of work to do.
While Indianapolis has made some good additions and re-signings, if you consider the players Indy also lost this offseason, a case can be made that Indy is in a worse spot currently than they were when the offseason first started. The Colts still have several holes on the roster, and if they want to be competitive next season, they’re going to have to be aggressive for the rest of the offseason.
Things Colts must still address
The biggest problem for Indianapolis entering this offseason was the offensive line. So far in free agency, Indy hasn’t done anything to address the offensive line. Many people expected the Colts to pursue former Philadelphia Eagles guard Isaac Seumalo, but he ultimately signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There are several linemen still available, so Indy needs to get active before those linemen find new destinations as well.
If Indianapolis doesn’t improve the offensive line, next season will look a lot like this past season: horrible. The offensive line must be better, especially since a rookie quarterback will likely be the starter.
The other major area of concern for the Colts is the defensive backfield, specifically corner. Indianapolis has several young and talented safeties. However, with Stephon Gilmore being traded and Brandon Facyson leaving in free agency, corner depth is a major problem right now.
Kenny Moore is still on the roster playing in the slot, but on the outside, the current starters would be Isaiah Rodgers Sr. and Dallis Flowers. Indianapolis needs to find another quality starter like Rock Ya-Sin or Marcus Peters, and also add some depth.
Those are the two biggest areas for concern but the Colts should be building depth and adding talent all throughout the roster. A team never wants to enter the draft trying to fill a ton of holes, so Indianapolis needs to quickly address things in the coming weeks.
