The Joe Flacco vs. Anthony Richardson argument just got an answer

Flacco proved he should be the QB of the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts might have lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5, but Joe Flacco did everything in his power to help push the Colts to victory. Flacco was so dominant in his first start as a Colt that the team now needs to stick with him moving forward.

This is not saying that the Colts should punt on Anthony Richardson, who missed the game with an injury, but rather take the approach of letting Richardson learn from the sidelines until he's more prepared to be a starter. Flacco finished this game completing 33 of 44 passes for 359 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It should have been enough to win, but the defense was the letdown on Sunday.

Colts should make the switch to Joe Flacco as the starting QB

The Colts spent the fourth overall pick on Richardson in the 2023 NFL Draft and he took the league by storm during the first four games of his rookie year. He scored a total of seven touchdowns with just one interception, and really dazzled on the ground with 136 rushing yards, and four of those seven touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Richardson was injured in his fourth game, and missed the rest of the year due to injury. The hope was that he'd slide back into this offense and continue to impress, but he was making too many mistakes. He led the league in interceptions entering Week 4, tossing six in his first three games of the season, and that can't be happening if this team wants to win games.

Imagine how much of a blowout the Colts-Jags game would have been if Richardson had been out there instead. Flacco took care of the football, and right now, he's the right option to have as the starting quarterback in Indianapolis.

If the Colts feel that Richardson is ready later in the season, then by all means, throw him out there... but sometimes it's beneficial for these young quarterbacks to observe from the sidelines. This could be a career-saving move for Richardson in Indianapolis if the situation is handled the correct way.
