Cornerback Kenny Moore didn't want to play for the Indianapolis Colts anymore. His reasoning was sound, though Indy fans hope he's wrong. The odd part is that Moore might not know what he is implying when he makes comments about his exit from the team.
Moore requested to be traded, but a deal couldn't be worked out. Maybe no team wanted Moore, which appears likely because he hasn't yet signed anywhere as a free agent. He is a free agent because, since no deal could be worked out, he asked the team to release him, and Indianapolis obliged.
Recently, while speaking with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Moore said he was thankful for his time with the Colts and that he was still close to people in the organization. What he said next was more telling, though.
Former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Kenny Moore recently spoke truth to power
The soon-to-be 31-year-old slot corner offered, "I'm at a perfect point in my career where I really wanna win. Hopefully, that comes with a team that has the culture and the scheme set out for me. I don't wanna just be a guy on the team because I feel like I have so many strengths to give to the secondary, to give to the team, and just be a leader."
To be fair, the cornerback likely doesn't mean that he wasn't a leader in Indianapolis, but he does imply he doesn't think the Colts are ready to win at a high level. That may be because Moore thinks Indy doesn't have the culture to win. That isn't the first time he has implied that.
None of this is to say that Kenny Moore is being disingenuous in his answers or trying to be rude about the Indianapolis Colts. He has always appeared to be a stand-up human being, but he isn't the only player who seemed dissatisfied with what Indy was doing.
Linebacker Zaire Franklin appeared happy to go when he was traded to the Green Bay Packers this past offseason. Quarterback Anthony Richardson is still with the team, but he has also asked to leave. Most franchises with a solid foundation don't have multiple players wanting to leave.
Winning does cure everything, however. Should the Colts win the AFC South for the first time since 2014 and make the postseason for the first time since 2020, this season, fans, coaches, and players will feel a lot better about where the organization is headed. As long as key players stay healthy, such as quarterback Daniel Jones and cornerback Sauce Gardner, all that could occur.
