Kenny Moore wanted out of playing with the Indianapolis Colts. He requested a trade this past offseason, and that never materialized. He then asked to be released, and the team did so. Now, the slot corner is a free agent and is hoping to find a new home.
That new home could be a bit too close for comfort for Indy fans, though. An AFC South rival, the Tennessee Titans, need a good slot cornerback, and Moore would be a terrific fit in new Tennessee head coach Robert Saleh's system.
The Titans do have Marcus Harris to play nickelback, but Moore might still be a tick better, at least for one season. As all Colts fans know, Moore can help a team much more than simply be solid in coverage. He is one of the better slot corners in the league against the run, a valuable tool in the AFC South, and, specifically, against Indianapolis.
Former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Kenny Moore could find his way to the Tennessee Titans
Moore isn't going to be expensive to sign for any team. He is 32 years old and offers no positional flexibility. He is a pure nickelback, a position that isn't needed on every play. What makes Moore special is that he can sub in for an outside corner on obvious rushing downs and help stuff the runner.
The shame is that he wanted out of Indy. The team doesn't have a proven player to replace him, though the hope is that Justin Walley can play the role. Walley was a third-round pick last year, but he missed the season with a torn ACL.
As for the Titans, they have a young quarterback in the person of Cam Ward that they hope will become elite, and if their offensive line is much better, their offense should be too.
What could make Tennessee scary is its defense. Robert Saleh has had long-term success on that side of the ball, and the Titans have added a lot of former New York Jets, one of Saleh's former teams, to fit into the scheme. What would augment their rapid rise to success is adding more smart veterans, and that is exactly what Kenny Moore is.
Is he going to make the Pro Bowl? Probably not, but even last season, his quarterback rating allowed was a solid 89.7. Since 2018, he has had at least 21 run stuffs each year. He's a good player still, but he might be a good player for the Tennessee Titans this coming season, and not the Indianapolis Colts.
