Kenny Moore needs something to happen. The former Indianapolis Colts slot corner asked to be traded this offseason, but no other team stepped forward with a good enough offer. Things got so dire that Moore asked for his release, and Indy granted him his wish.

Now, Moore is looking for a new team, but none has so far materialized. One could, obviously, especially if a key player gets injured in training camp or early in the season. What's odd is that no team wanted to make an immediate move for Moore either as part of a trade or once he entered free agency.

To be fair to the player, if not for Lou Anarumo, Moore could still be a Colt. That isn't meant to disparage the defensive coordinator, but his system simply isn't a good fit for Moore. The cornerback went from a longtime starter to a part-time starter in 2025, Anarumo's first season in Indianapolis.

Former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Kenny Moore still hasn't found what he's looking for

The nickelback's snaps dropped from at least 92 percent of all defensive plays between 2018 and 2024 to just 76 percent last year. He still saw the field a lot, but he was also seeing the writing on the wall: He wasn't going to last with Indianapolis.

Moore has consistently given two reasons for requesting to leave his previous organization, though he has remained steadfast that he harbors no ill will toward the Indianapolis Colts and still gets along with people in the organization.

One of the reasons Moore has delivered is that he wanted to go to a team where he felt more like a key part of the team. After one season under Anarumo, he knew he was no longer that in Indy.

The other reason was that Moore wanted to go somewhere, potentially in the last year or two of his career, that had a real chance of winning a Super Bowl. While Moore has never said he doesn't think the Colts are capable of that, he does imply it by wanting to play elsewhere.

Kenny Moore was a well-liked player in Indianapolis, and while some fans might harbor a bit of negativity toward the cornerback since he chose to leave the team instead of letting the natural course become fact, the truth is he has earned the right to narrate how his career ends.

The brutal reality could be that he is already done, though. He is 31 years old and can't play outside corner. That makes him a very specific need that a lot of teams don't need. The Colts don't, as Justin Walley was a built-in replacement for Moore. If he ends up anywhere, the hope is he finds what he is looking for, as long as that isn't with an AFC South rival.
