It's not every year that a kicker gets inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Only two have reached that milestone in the league's long history until this past weekend, when former Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri made it three.
Vinatieri, who also played for the New England Patriots during his 24-year career, was inducted on Saturday in front of family, friends, and a host of former teammates and players. His speech was full of emotion and plenty of laughs, including some pokes at his former Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, and former Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning.
When a kicker gets enshrined in NFL immortality like Vinatieri is now, it's always a special moment—a moment only Jan Stenerud (Inducted in 1991) and Morten Andersen (Inducted in 2017) know all too well.

The honor of reaching the Hall of Fame is monumental in an NFL player's life, but Vinatieri made sure to pay his respects to those who helped along the way, and his choice of tie for the event was a perfect example.
Jim Irsay's time as the Colts' owner didn't come without its controversies regarding his personal life. Those controversies had to do with legal troubles that seeped into the public, addiction struggles, and controversial public remarks that usually sparked negative reactions within the NFL community.
That being said, the impact Irsay had on many of the players who wore Colts jerseys throughout their careers has typically been great, and many have had glowing things to say about him. Peyton Manning, for one, the most iconic and recognizable Colt in franchise history, shared a deep bond, and Manning has always spoken highly of Irsay and the respect and emotion he had toward the owner.
Vinatieri has followed Manning's footsteps, speaking fondly of Irsay during his Hall of Fame speech. To emphasize the occasion, Irsay's daughter, and now the Colts owner, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, presented Vinatieri with a blue tie with gray stripes before his speech, the same tie that belonged to her father, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche.
Irsay owned the franchise from 1997 until 2025, when he passed away in May of that year. Vinatieri went undrafted in 1996, and instead entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent after playing in the World League of American Football for the Amsterdam Admirals. The Patriots signed him, and he would go on to win three Super Bowls alongside Tom Brady and Belichick.
In 2006, Vinatieri signed with the Colts as a free agent and would win another championship before spending the remaining years of his career in Indianapolis. To this day, Vinatieri is widely regarded as the NFL’s greatest kicker ever, and it may be a long, long time before another gets his name called as Vinatieri did on Saturday.
A great career deserves a memorable Hall of Fame enshrinement. Vinatieri's was certainly that.
