The Indianapolis Colts should pile up the points when they visit the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see them break 40 for the first time in four years.
The last time the Colts posted over 40 points in a game was November 4th, 2021, when the Jets paid a visit to Lucas Oil. While this week is a road game against a division opponent, there are a few parallels to that long-ago victory. Like the Titans, the Jets were a bad defensive squad.
They'd already allowed 54 points to the Patriots, and were averaging 25 points allowed in their other contests. So yeah, they were bad.
The Titans have given up 20 and 33 points so far in their two losses. They've allowed exactly 300 yards rushing in those two games; 151 in Week 1 and 149 in Week 2. Ooo, they're trending better; maybe Jonathan Taylor has something to worry about after all. Except he doesn't, and he's far from the only reason the Colts should show out on offense this week.
The Colts should put on an offensive show in Week 3
Let's talk a bit more about Mr. Taylor. After his destruction of the Broncos last week, he's leading the league with 118.0 yards per game. As it turns out, I was just a bit off on my prediction of DJ Giddens seeing a bigger role in Week 2.
I think zero carries and one target in the passing game would qualify as virtually zero impact. But Taylor was shredding the Broncos, and you should ride the hot hand. I do expect to see more of Giddens this week, though.
Tyler Warren may not have scored a touchdown yet, but you can expect that to change against the Titans. The Broncos tight ends caught five of seven targets agasin them in th eseason opener. The Rams were even better, catchinig five of five targets and reaching the end zone once.
I'm not knocking Evan Engram or Tyler Higbee, but neither of those guys is Warren. After earlier concerns, Warren is ready to ravage the Titans in Week 3.
And of course, the guy who's been making it all go is Daniel Jones. As I've already shown, I have no problems admitting when I'm wrong. And so far, wow, was I wrong about Danny Dimes. There's such a feel-good element to redemption stories, and Jones shows all signs of being the latest in the NFL.
The Athletic has a terrific article on how this has all played out for Jones and the Colts. It's a subscription site, but it's just $2 a month, and I highly recommend it. Just as I recommend you take the over for the Colts versus the Titans.
