The Colts are taking a look at adding some veteran depth along their defensive line by hosting free agent defensive tackle Chris Jones on a visit.

The Colts have a lot of holes on their roster to fill, but defensive tackle looked like a solid position heading into this offseason.

Their defensive line talent took a hit when the Colts decided to release Johnathan Hankins because he didn’t fit their new defensive scheme.

However, Al Woods, Henry Anderson and Margus Hunt could make up a good rotation when healthy, and general manager Chris Ballard signed free agent Denico Autry to add to the defensive line depth chart.

Ballard may be looking at another free agent defensive lineman as Chris Jones took a visit to Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Jones came into the league in 2013 and made an immediate impact as a rookie with 6 sacks as a New England Patriot. His production fell off a bit with 3 sacks in 2014, but that’s still a solid number for an interior defensive lineman as he played a role in winning a Super Bowl ring.

Jones didn’t play at all in 2015, and his 2016 season was split between Miami and San Francisco as he recorded 16 tackles in 13 games.

Jones was on the 49ers’ roster again in 2017, but he spent the entire year on injured reserve.

Jones grew up in Indiana, so he probably didn’t have to travel too far for this visit.

He wouldn’t be a major difference-maker for the Colts, but you can never have too many big bodies in the defensive line rotation.
