The Colts have traded down with the Jets, which gave them the sixth overall pick. General manager Chris Ballard is confident he can still get an elite player with that pick.

The Colts sent the third overall pick to New York in exchange for the sixth overall pick, two 2018 second round picks, and a 2019 second round pick.

Indianapolis still has plenty of holes on their roster after a disappointing free agent period. With quarterbacks expected to be taken with a majority of the top five picks, the Colts could have their choice of position players at number six.

Cornerback was a position of need heading into the offseason, but that need grew even larger after Rashaan Melvin signed with the Raiders in free agency. Luckily there should be an extremely talented cornerback available at this point of the draft in Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Minkah Fitzpatrick was one of the most versatile players in the country over the past few seasons with the Crimson Tide. Fitzpatrick racked up 24 pass breakups and 9 interceptions in coverage in three seasons at Alabama, and he’s also shown the ability to defend the run and even rush the passer from the cornerback position.

Fitzpatrick was also an incredible playmaker with four touchdowns during his college career.

He mainly played in the slot at Alabama, but he’s got enough size (6′ 1″ 201 pounds) and speed (4.46 second 40 yard dash) to play outside corner as well. Fitzpatrick’s versatility and playmaking ability could give the Colts a home run selection with the sixth overall pick.
