The Colts had an extremely ugly performance in their first preseason game, but they have an opportunity to show improvement this week against the Cowboys.

Last week’s preseason game showed Colts fans exactly where there weaknesses were.

The offense struggled mightily in the absence of Andrew Luck. None of the current QB’s (Scott Tolzien, Phillip Walker, and Stephen Morris) were able to provide any spark under center for Indianapolis.

The backup quarterback position remains highlighted as one of the items to watch in today’s game against the Cowboys.

Backup QB

Scott Tolzien didn’t get much action in last week’s game only throwing 5 passes in his brief appearance.

Phillip Walker was the next QB to get in the game, but he had a rough performance going 9/20 for 86 yards getting sacked 3 times in his first game action.

Stephen Morris put together the only touchdown drive for the Colts at the end of the game, but will that be enough to put him ahead of Walker on the depth chart?

Offensive Line

The Colts’ O-line was thoroughly dominated by an uninspiring Lions defensive line last week. They gave up 5 sacks, and could only generate 52 yards in the run game.

The Colts need to see someone step up at the center position with Ryan Kelly out for an extended amount of time, and Brian Schwenke nursing a sore ankle.

Number Two Cornerback

The Colts are looking at a couple of rookies to take the number two spot on the CB depth chart behind Vontae Davis.

Second-round pick Quincy Wilson was expected to be the guy, but fifth-round CB Nate Hairston started ahead of him last week.

Wilson got worked by Lions receiver Kenny Golladay when he came in the game, and he’s got plenty to prove in tonight’s matchup with the Cowboys.
