Indianapolis Colts fans spent the early part of the offseason hoping the team would draft tight end Tyler Warren. Once the draft rolled around, and Warren’s name was still on the board when Indy was on the clock, the team didn’t hesitate to use the 14th pick on the tight end. The reason Warren was a no-brainer selection is because he was an elite prospect with a skillset that should make him elite in the NFL.

Since joining the Colts, the tight end has delivered on expectations, quickly becoming a force on the offense. Warren has already made his fair share of impressive grabs in training camp, and now everyone is ready to see him perform in a game.

Reporter Jeremy Fowler detailed the impressive start to the tight end’s first training camp in a recent piece for ESPN. After visiting the Colts for a practice, Fowler said Warren already carries a presence in Indianapolis. To explain that presence, Fowler used the words of head coach Shane Steichen to explain what makes the rookie special.

"Man, it's been impressive -- great hands, just a natural route runner, great feel for the game. Finds the dead spots in zone coverage can win versus man with his big body and then his run out for catch-all. He's impressive. You can throw him a flat route and make a guy miss or run a guy over, so great."

All of the things Steichen listed are the tools that made Warren special at Penn State, and why he was such an exciting prospect. It’s great to learn he hasn’t had a problem transitioning those skills to the league, because that means he’ll be ready to be an impact player from the start, and that’s exactly what the Colts and their quarterbacks need.

Indianapolis has been looking for an elite tight end for years, and that’s why the team used a lot of recent draft picks on the position. The Colts finally selected a tight end in the first round, and it seems like he will be the one to end their search. If Warren can continue his dominant ways into the season, he could have a special year in Indianapolis.
