The Indianapolis Colts have relied on center Ryan Kelly ever since they drafted him in 2016. He's been selected to the Pro Bowl twice, and in 2020, the Colts signed him to a four-year contract extension for $50 million, making him the highest paid center in the NFL. He's been a vital component of the Indianapolis offensive line, an elite unit that is one of the best in the league.

Yet Kelly is a free agent this year, and he's been consistently battling injuries over the last few years, and - to put it plainly - he's getting older. Though he has made it clear that he wants to stay in Indianapolis, the fact that his last contract brought in so much money is now a mark against him. Combine that with the fact that Tanor Bortolini was a capable replacement for him in 2024, and it seems that Kelly's days with the Colts are numbered.

And, based on a tweet from Mike Chappell, he's accepted that he will be leaving.

In their interview, Kelly said he's even excited to enter free agency for the first time. “My plan is to see what’s out there on the market,’’ Kelly said. “Indy can always match it. I’ll miss it, if that’s it. It was a good run for nine years.’’

Kelly has been openly emotional about what is likely the end of his time in Indianapolis, tearing up in post-game interviews after the last game of the 2024 season... potentially his last as a Colt. And his emotions seem to still be running high.

“You won’t find an owner who’s more passionate about his players,’’ Kelly said. “I just can’t be more thankful to be drafted here nine years ago. Two hours from home (West Chester, Ohio). Through the ups and downs, there’s not another place I’d rather be. Indy will always be home. I love this horseshoe, man. It’s been an honor to represent it the right way.’’
