The 2024 season is officially over for the Indianapolis Colts, and there are inevitably changes coming. The Indianapolis franchise has been in turmoil, with plenty of rumors swirling about who will be staying and who will be going - particularly regarding the front office. But there's also the question of the Colts roster.
There's clearly talent on this Indianapolis team, but adjustments will need to be made to lift the Colts out of mediocrity, and back towards a legitimate contender for the playoffs. When it comes for free agency, the Colts have a healthy amount of salary cap space to spend.
Chris Ballard, the current general manager for the Indianapolis Colts, is notorious for prioritizing keeping his current players over signing new ones. However, it's expected that Ballard's days are numbered, and if he leaves, big changes could take place.
There are numerous free agents who could leave Indianapolis in 2025, and free agents fall into one of three categories.
Unrestricted free agents (FA) can sign with anyone and openly negotiate with any interested team.
Restricted free agents (RFA) have three years of accrued NFL seasons, and their availability depends on the tender (first round tender, second round, or right of first refusal) their current team places on them. If that player receives an offer from another team, their current team has the right to try to match that offer. If they choose not to, the incumbent team would be entitled to a draft choice equal to the round in which the RFA was selected. If no tender is placed on the player, they become an unrestricted free agent.
Exclusive Rights Free Agents (ERFA) are players who have accrued less than three NFL seasons, and cannot negotiate with other teams unless their current team decides not to resign them.
