Taylor Lewan could be a prime target for the Colts this offseason

With the struggles on the offensive line, it never hurts to bring in more veteran talent. Taylor Lewan had a tremendous career in Tenessee and would be a prime target for the Colts to go after in free agency after he was released from the Titans a few weeks ago.

However, Lewan is another aging veteran coming off a serious knee injury at the game's most important position. It also wasn’t just one injury, Lewan has dealt with multiple injuries in the past few seasons. Would he really be an improvement over a second year player like Bernhard Raimann?

Bringing in Lewan would be a good move if the Colts knew they are going to keep him on the bench and be a mentor to our younger players. He could even be the spark for Quenton Nelson to turn him back into the league's best left guard. Veteran leadership is always needed.

But Lewan is a player that is going to want to play still. He's not going to want to sit behind a younger player and watch him stuggle. Don't let his wants outweigh the team's needs. There are younger, more healthy tackles in the open market that the Colts could go after.

If the Colts are to bring in any left tackle, they should be going after a player like Orlando Brown Jr., not Taylor Lewan.
