Baker Mayfield should not even think about coming to Indy

With the Colts heavily in the market for a quarterback in the draft, it is believed that Indianapolis will likely need to bring in a bridge quarterback that will allow the rookie to grow into a star player that they need. Baker Mayfield could fit that bill if the Colts take a chance on him, but he's not looking to be a bridge player at the moment. Baker wants a real shot at a starting role in the NFL and his best opportunity is in Los Angeles still.

Since the Colts are going to move on from the bridge QB fairly quickly, lets not even waste the time or money to try to develop them behind Baker. There will be several other options Indy can explore for a bridge quarterback that make much more sense than Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield is likely not going to get signed in the first few days of free agency. The second wave of free agency is a prime Ballard time frame that will allow him to swoop in and sign him to a minimum contract late in the game to bring a rookie in behind.

If the Colts do land Baker Mayfield, it gives more insight into what they will do in the draft. Mayfield would better match with Will Levis, who currently sits as QB4 in many mock drafts and the post-combine QB rankigns for the Colts.

For the sake of drafting the best quarterback, the Colts need to stay away from Baker Mayfield when free agency starts.
