With the Indianapolis Colts kicking off their preseason in just a couple of days, fans have been wondering just how much they'll get to see quarterback Anthony Richardson in action.

Last year, you might remember head coach Shane Steichen saying, "Let's get him out there," when referring to Richardson's preseason playing time as a rookie. This year should be no different, especially coming back from injury and having such a strong offseason.

It seems likely that Richardson would start the first preseason game against the Broncos on Sunday and play for a handful of series, just to get him back in the rhythm of game day.

The following Saturday, Indianapolis takes on the Cardinals in their second preseason game. That will be the one to watch, as Richardson will likely play the most out of all three games. It would not be surprising to see Richardson get the entire first quarter, if not the first quarter and a half. Giving him three to four series is likely the plan for Steichen, but Richardson won't play any more than the first half.

In the team's final preseason game against the Bengals, we might see Richardson play one series and hand the ball off a few times in a row before exiting. That's the key game to take cautiously and one we'll likely see Richardson highly limited.

Does it make sense for Anthony Richardson to play in the preseason?

For a player who was a first-round pick and the team's hopeful, franchise quarterback, it does make sense for Richardson to be out there during the preseason. It's especially important after he only started four games in his rookie season and had to come back from injury over the last several months.

Giving him some reps to get his feet wet in live action, once again, is crucial. But, Steichen will be careful with Richardson's snap count.

There is no world where Richardson gets extensive playing time during the preseason, as to avoid another serious injury. Risking Richardson's health in meaningless games is not at the forefront for the head coach.

If Steichen played his quarterback enough in preseason Week 2, and saw some good things, it might even make sense for Richardson to sit the final one out. Don't be shocked if Richardson gets enough action against the Cardinals and takes a seat against Cincy in the final exhibition.
