The Indianapolis Colts are currently set at quarterback. The team used the fourth-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to select Anthony Richardson. So far, Richardson has been as advertised, though, he did just miss a game with a concussion. Even still, Indianapolis has Gardner Minshew as QB2, and he’s one of the best backups in the league. That was clear in his performances over the last two weeks, two games Indy won.

Prior to drafting Richardson, the Colts spent time on an exhausting quarterback carousel, rotating through veteran quarterbacks that were past their prime. While those QBs are no longer Indy’s concern, a couple of them are trying to get back into the league. Those quarterbacks are Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz.

On Sunday, NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that both Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan have reached out to the New York Jets, making it clear that they were available and willing to come join the team.

Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz are interested in joining Jets

Glazer made it clear that New York’s plan is to still stick with Zach Wilson. That’s what the Jets have said they’ll do since Aaron Rodgers went down with his Achilles injury. However, New York is now 1-2, after losing its last two games, and many people believe the team should go after a veteran quarterback to give the talented roster a chance to be competitive this season.

That could be Matt Ryan, who his currently working with CBS Sports. However, he has made it clear that he isn’t retired, and is willing to suit back up for the right opportunity. The 38 year old most recently played with the Colts last season, throwing for 3,057 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 12 games. It was a terrible year for him, but he was let down by his circumstances.

Carson Wentz, who played for the Colts two seasons ago, played with the Washington Commanders last season. An injury limited him to just eight games, but he threw for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Wentz is only 30 years old, and he’s been making it clear that he still wants to play.

The New York Jets have been adamant about sticking with Zach Wilson, but Ryan and Wentz shot their shot anyway. Depending on how things unfold in the coming weeks, maybe the Jets will reconsider their stance and give one of these guys a call.
