Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Anthony Richardson plan to workout with Indy’s pass catchers during summer break.
Back in late March, two days after he inked a deal with the Indianapolis Colts, Gardner Minshew was seen spotted with at-the-time NFL Draft prospect Anthony Richardson in Florida.
The veteran QB had already provided his tutelage to the rook long before he was even his teammate. Coincidence or not, spoiler alert it's not, Minshew and Richardson have built a relationship that's centered around helping one another and thus far in their limited time together in a team setting, it shows.
This aforementioned chemistry that's already been established in some capacity can only take them as far as their collective relationship with their pass catchers goes. Anthony Richardson may be a freshly turned 21-year-old rookie QB, but he understands what it takes and relayed that to the media following the conclusion of mandatory minicamp.
"I’ll be getting with the receivers, getting with Gardner (Minshew II) trying to get in the building here so I can constantly learn information and build chemistry because the season is right around the corner, it’s coming up fast. Trying to get better, master my craft. Getting in the playbook a lot more and getting chemistry with the receivers a lot more as well."QB Anthony Richardson
Gardner Minshew added, "I think we’re going to have a decent amount of guys down there. So, it might be a good central location around everybody else," inferring that he and Richardson have already had preliminary talks on the matter with some logistics left to be ironed out.
The two QBs have split first team reps all thoughout the first wave of offseason practices, but as they're both focused on bettering each other first and foremost, building a rapport with the passcatchers will likely become priority in these workouts.
Anthony Richardson and those alike who are present at the workouts will get an inside edge at learning the playbook and understanding the offensive philosophy at hand with Shane Steichen leading the charge: Gardner Minshew.
Gardner Minshew is the only offensive piece on the Colts that Steichen has previously coached having been with Philly the last seasons. His insight alone will be instrumental for the development of those present at said workouts.
Be on the lookout on social media for any updates as they're likely to come. Richardson just yesterday posted on Instagram that he was at the University of Florida so these workouts could be on the other side of the door... or he's just back home for summer break.
