Teams are always willing to live and die with promising young quarterbacks with physical tools, and the Indianapolis Colts are riding that roller coaster with Anthony Richardson. The first two games have shown exactly how wild the swings can be with the talented Florida alum.

The Colts are 0-2 through their first two games, and Richardson has had two very different games to begin the season. After a strong start against the Houston Texans, which featured a game-breaking 60-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce, Richardson lost to Malik Willis and the Green Bay Packers.

Through two games, Richardson is leading the NFL in interceptions with four and has completed less than 50% of his passes. These numbers are scary by themselves, but what makes matters worse is the fact Indy can't lean on the excuse of having another young team that is not prepared to win.

According to Pro Football Focus, Richardson has been the beneficiary of the best pass-blocking offensive line in a league where quality line play is exceedingly rare. Richardson came into this league as an inaccurate shotgun sprayer, and he is very much the same player.

Anthony Richardson struggling with accuracy despite good Colts OL play

Richardson was always going to be a long-term gamble, as the Colts knew he was a very raw player who was not super accurate in college. However, the thought was putting him in a Colts offense that has good protection will be able to help Richardson slowly work out the kinks in his game.

To be fair to Richardson, the Colts have tried to get the most out of his all-world arm by throwing it deep quite frequently. They need to keep this up, as turning him into Captain Checkdown would be like telling an aggressive heavyweight to be defensive and jab. However, some safer throws would not go amiss.

The Colts will get top underneath target Josh Downs back to full speed soon, which will be a huge boost for Richardson and the offense. Going up against two of the best defenses in the league in Houston and Green Bay likely didn't help matters.

The Colts are quickly falling to the back of the back in an AFC South that will likely be won by the Texans after their 2-0 start. If they want any shot of digging themselves out of this hole, Richardson needs to be a bit more efficient when given time in the pocket.
