3. Are the Colts healthy?
Indianapolis was a bad football team last season, there’s no denying that. However, it’s also fair to acknowledge that injuries played a role in Indy’s underwhelming 4-12-1 season. The two best players, and biggest stars, on the Colts roster, Jonathan Taylor and Shaquille Leonard, missed significant time last season with injuries.
Jonathan Taylor only played in 11 games, before ultimately having an offseason ankle surgery, and Leonard played just 74 snaps over three games, before having his second back surgery within a year. Now, the hope is that both players will be ready for training camp and 100% for the 2023 season.
Those aren’t the only injuries being monitored, though. Throughout the offseason program, several players were sidelined as they dealt with different issues. Among those names were rookies Julius Brents and Josh Downs, and second-year tight end Andrew Ogletree, who tore his ACL during last year’s training camp.
The Colts will need their veterans and their newcomers healthy this season if they’re going to be competitive. So it’ll be important to see who’s ready to roll on day one of training camp, and who needs more time to recover.
