As the Indianapolis Colts look to the offseason, numerous players are speaking about the current state of the team, and what their plans for the future might be. And that may include a veteran tight end who is set to enter free agency this year.
Mo Alie-Cox signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2017, and has spent his entire career in the NFL with them. He has been a reliable tight end, particularly when it comes to blocking, but latest media interviews insinuate that he may end up looking to play elsewhere.
In media interviews, Alie-Cox said his goal for free agency is winning - which could be considered a dig at the Colts.
"I would say just... [pause] ... winning," he said. "I mean, we've won here, but so I just -- we're like... and we've kind of been in the same position for a while. So I would just say just taking the next step forward and different things like that. I mean, not saying that we can't do that here, but like... I'm 31 now. I'm older. So just being an older veteran, things like that, just different things like that."
It certainly comes across as if he is looking to jump ship if anyone might possibly be interested.
And could anyone blame him? Colts owner Jim Irsay is evidently not looking to make any major changes, leading many analysts and fans to assume that 2025 will be yet another season mired in mediocrity for Indianapolis. And as Alie-Cox said, he's getting older. He could hardly be blamed for getting impatient with the same status quo, particularly as general manager Chris Ballard is staying, and his record in Indianapolis is not one to be very optimistic about.
It's clear that Alie-Cox is trying to tread lightly with a difficult subject, but it's not a good sign for the future of the franchise when one of its stars is seemingly openly discussing leaving to have a chance of winning elsewhere.
