Our 2025 NFL Draft series continues with our final Day 2 candidate. We have discussed the possibility of the Colts drafting a tight end early in the first round. If they are unable to get our previously discussed candidate, they can pivot to a very effective one on Day 2 with potentially great value. There are two major names that could be available by the end of Day 2, and we discuss the more viable option.

Mason Taylor/TE - LSU
If the Colts choose not to draft Michigan TE Colston Loveland in the first round, they will potentially look to draft LSU TE Mason Taylor. He has NFL blood in him, as he is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. He has the size and characteristics that this Colts front office (or any front office) would look for. His measurements come in at 6’5 and 255 lbs and some early 40-yard dash times came in at 4.6 seconds.
Taylor excels as a pass catcher, but has also been great in the yards after catch as well. He is not the best vertical pass catcher, but can make a difference in that department. His real threat is in the intermediate scheme. He is currently having his best season to date, with 49 receptions for 478 yards and 2 TDs. If the franchise chooses to keep Steichen (seems more realistic with each week), then he could really bring out the best in him. One could argue that not having a game breaking tight end has hindered this offense, and Steichen has been unable to unlock another level of his offense for this reason.
The Colts' issues at tight end are well documented this season. So far, the room has been absent and non-existent. With starter Mo Alie-Cox most likely leaving and Kylen Granson a free agent after this season, the need is glaring. With only Drew Ogletree and Will Mallory expected to return, this franchise has to address the position. While the team is still high on both returning tight ends, Taylor will bring some hope and stability to the tight end room.
