The Indianapolis Colts have been the talk of the 2025 NFL season. The team sits on top of the AFC standings and has the best record in the NFL at 6-1. Jonathan Taylor, Daniel Jones, and the offensive line have all turned in out-of-this-world play. The offense has been lighting up scoreboards the likes of which Indy fans haven't seen in years.
The defense has struggled at times, allowing teams to move the ball seemingly unimpeded. Injuries have been a factor in the struggle. Cornerbacks Charvarius Ward (concussion), Kenny Moore II (Achilles), Jaylon Jones (hamstring), and defensive end Samson Ebukam (MCL), Tyquan Lewis (groin), and Kwity Paye (groin) have all missed playing time this season.
Even with all of those injuries, the defense has done enough to not only keep Indianapolis in games but to seal the victory when needed. The "next man up" mentality has enabled the defense to make plays when they need to. As dominant as the Colts are with a depleted defense, it's possible this team could dominate even more.
Indianapolis Colts defense could be scary good
Indianapolis Colts fans, that's the exciting part! We may have only gotten a taste of what's to come with this team. A new defensive coordinator in Lou Anarumo, injuries galore, and the Colts only have one loss going into Week 8. Coming out of training camp, nobody saw this coming.
We are talking about a Colts defense that has been besieged with injuries and ranks 22nd overall through Week 7 of the 2025 season and has still been able to do enough to win ball games. Indianapolis' defense has secured 11 takeaways and 19 sacks thus far, ranking third and fourth, respectively, in those categories.
And that's why this is the most exciting aspect of this iteration of the Indianapolis Colts. With second and third string players getting playing time because of these injuries, the defense is getting stronger with more players getting in-game reps. Injuries will heal, and the defense can continue to gel each week under Coach Lou. The rest of the NFL should be concerned.
