The Indianapolis Colts traveled to Los Angeles for the second time in the 2025 NFL season. Their first visit to SoFi Stadium saw them take on the Los Angeles Rams during Week 4 and resulted in their first, and thus far only, loss of the season by a score of 27-20. The Week 7 tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers ended differently.
Indianapolis walked out of SoFi Stadium with its head held high after a victory over the Chargers. Both teams from Los Angeles are strong, so coming away from the West Coast with one close loss and one win is a result Colts fans should be pleased with. Nobody would've predicted that to be the case heading into training camp, yet here we are.
The Colts made a statement with their opening drive as the offensive line dominated the Chargers' defensive line. Jonathan Taylor capped off the five-play, 75-yard drive with a 23-yard touchdown run. Indianapolis only needed two minutes, 24 seconds to put points on the board.
Indianapolis Colts dominate Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7
After the Chargers converted a field goal attempt, Indianapolis continued to show moxy on a fourth-and-1 from their own 39-yard line. Taylor was stopped short initially, before lunging forward and getting the first down. Later in the drive, they would convert two additional fourth-and-short situations deep in the Chargers' territory, leading to their second touchdown in as many drives.
Daniel Jones and the Indy offense continued to show toughness on a third-and-17 play deep in their own territory as the QB connected with Alec Pierce on a 48-yard pass. The Colts would punch it in the endzone three plays later with rookie tight end Tyler Warren catching a five-yard TD pass from Jones. Three possessions. Three touchdowns.
Indianapolis would take a 23-3 lead into halftime, and they didn't look back. The offense wasn't the only star of the game, as the Colts' defense kept Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert scrambling most of the day. The Indy defense would intercept two Herbert passes in the first half, and....
A quick strike by Los Angeles coming out of halftime was topped by the Colts. Ameer Abdullah returned the Chargers' kickoff 60 yards to the LA 14-yard line, and Indianapolis needed just two plays to add another touchdown to the board. A successful two-point conversion put the Colts up by 21 less than three minutes into the second half.
The Colts would continue to play a solid game, minimizing mistakes in the second half. Indianapolis would nearly match the Chargers' score-for-score, preventing LA from gaining any momentum. Even when Los Angeles would gain 15 or 20 yards on a play, the Colts' defense continued to keep the pressure on the Chargers' offense.
Even with a weakened secondary, the defense stood strong when it needed to. This was a statement game for the Colts. Indianapolis went to Los Angeles in Week 7 looking to prove to the rest of the AFC that they are for real. Walking out of SoFi Stadium with a 38-24 victory did just that.
