When it comes to the Indianapolis Colts in the upcoming NFL Draft, there have been two candidates mentioned by most analysts. Penn State tight end Tyler Warren and Georgia safety Malaki Starks have been the overwhelming choice for the Colts, as both address major needs for Indianapolis. Though there have been the occasional other candidates floated as options, for most, it seems to be Starks or Warren.
Eric Edholm, for NFL.com, has also decided to go a different route with his mock draft, recommending South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori.
"I love Emmanwori's game and think he can rise through the draft process, even if he might be asked about the "miscommunication" over exiting the Gamecocks' bowl game at halftime."Eric Edholm
Emmanwori is just 20 years old, but he's been a starter for all three years he's spent at South Carolina. He's been a strong run blocker, which was a real problem for Indianapolis in 2024. His size - 6'3" and 227 pounds - is more akin to a linebacker than a safety, but he's agile and strong. Emmanwori plays well out of the box, and his size makes him able to cover tight ends and running backs alike.
He does have trouble missing plays and can allow runners to escape to the edge, and has been known to be penalty-prone. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, and then as a junior, was named to the All-SEC first team and a first team All-American. He certainly has talent and potential to be a formidable defender in the NFL, and has the versatility to fit into a number of schemes. He will probably be an attractive prospect for numerous teams, including the Colts.
Edholm certainly had a good pick for Indianapolis - compared to other analysts who have suggested positions that the Colts don't even need, like wide receivers - and while Starks should be more of a priority, Emmanwori would be a good next choice if Warren or Starks get picked earlier in the draft.
