The Indianapolis Colts are already in need of all of their key players remaining healthy. What could be an uphill challenge to make the playoffs after a Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens makes every other game more important. The team is going to need wide receiver Alec Pierce, for instance, to be available and productive.

Pierce, though, missed practice on Thursday, three days ahead of Indy taking on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. The receiver was listed with a "heel" issue, which is what the team is calling the injury he had that required surgery in March. Ankle, heel...It's one of those.

The truth is that Pierce was probably just being held out to rest his injury because he fully participated in practice on Wednesday. That could just be the normal rotation Indy plans on with the wideout for the foreseeable future.

Indianapolis Colts' Alec Pierce misses practice on Thursday, but there is no reason to panic

According to the Indy Star's Joel A. Erickson, Pierce said that the plan was likely to use him fully on Sunday. A player isn't going to say that and then suddenly come up lame before they practice, unless that player is Anthony Richardson, maybe.

In other words, while Pierce missed Thursday's practice and wasn't listed with a "rest" designation, the Colts were most likely just giving him some time off. He could even be listed as limited on Friday and play more reps in Week 2 than he did in Week 1.

Friday's injury report is important, though. That is when the team will hand out official designations to players. If Pierce is indeed listed as questionable or the dreaded out, this article will be updated accordingly. The expectation is that he won't be out for the game.

Head coach Shane Steichen will give injury updates on Friday, too. He doesn't normally give detailed information because that would obviously be akin to him giving away the nuclear codes, but whatever information he does drop might be important.

Quarterback Richardson missed practice on Wednesday with a "groin" injury, but practiced fully on Thursday. He should be Daniel Jones' immediate backup against the Chiefs in Week 2, though the hope is that Richardson doesn't play unless Indianapolis is ahead 70-0 or something like that.

Also on Thursday, wide receiver Aston Dulin missed his second straight practice with an ankle injury. He is looking unlikely for the Kansas City game. Defensive tackle Grover Stewart also missed practice, but due to a "personal" issue.
