Kenny Moore might wish he could take back his offseason Colts decision

Regrets...he might have a few.

The Indianapolis Colts might have been ready to move on either way without cornerback Kenny Moore II, whether the player requested a trade and then to be released. Yet, Moore made the team's decision easier by requesting those two items.

Moore said he wanted to go to a team where he was a better fit with the defense and could be more involved in helping a team win. With Indy under defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, Moore had seen his snap count greatly diminish as Anarumo's system devalues the slot corner position.

The issue for the player is that he still has no new team, which means the money he was scheduled to be paid by the Colts in 2026 is gone. No team is paying the veteran cornerback to play at this point, and the season begins in three weeks. Moore might have to hope, unfortunately, that a team has an injury issue and needs a soon-to-be 31-year-old cornerback to take that injured player's spot.

Kenny Moore is still looking for a new home after leaving the Indianapolis Colts

According to 107.5 The Fan's James Boyd (who also works for The Athletic), Moore is still in the Indianapolis area and doing some workouts to help himself stay in football shape should someone come calling for his services. The veteran corner deserves better, but he took a gamble on himself that hasn't yet paid off.

Moore might have found himself released by the team in place of Justin Walley, no matter if he had asked to be released or not. Walley is younger and cheaper, and while Moore hadn't suddenly started playing much worse, it might have been time to make Walley the starter, or at least the player to man the nickelback spot.

The Indianapolis Colts wanted to get younger and more athletic, and by definition that meant giving Walley a chance to replace Moore. Walley was excellent against the run in college at Minnesota. In training camp last year, he flashed quickness and excellent coverage ability.

He missed the entire season after hurting his knee before the season, but he had done enough in camp to have the team excited about what he might be able to do, and he hasn't disappointed in training camp this year.

At least, not to the Colts. Kenny Moore might be disappointed by how well Justin Walley has done because that has only made Kenny Moore look even less valuable to any team thinking of signing him. He was easily replaceable. Many Indy fans might hope he does find a new team soon, however. He put in too many productive seasons in Indianapolis to be quickly dismissed by the NFL.
