Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has cemented his eventual place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame with his monster 2025 season. While Taylor has always been a great running back, he's having one of his best seasons this year, and the league is taking notice.

Taylor has been single-handedly proving that the running back position is still relevant... so much so, there is growing hype around Taylor being named league MVP, instead of the seemingly prerequisite quarterback. Currently, he is the league leader in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and runs over 20 yards this season.

It's believed that, at the very least, Taylor has a good chance of being named Offensive Player of the Year. But regardless of what awards he does or doesn't get, it won't really matter. Because Taylor has just solidified his spot in Indianapolis Colts history.

Jonathan Taylor is officially an Indianapolis Colts legend

During the Colts' Week 10 game in Berlin against the Atlanta Falcons, Taylor surpassed the legendary Edgerrin James for most rushing touchdowns in Indianapolis history. The first touchdown came early in the game, and at 64 touchdowns, tied Taylor and James for the franchise record. But it wasn't long before Taylor ran for another touchdown and took the record for himself.

The second touchdown came on a stunning 83-yard run to give Indy the lead in the fourth quarter. It was classic Taylor, too. Initially stopped at the line of scrimmage, he broke an arm tackle, ran past another defender, and sprinted toward the end zone. It was a thing of beauty.

That Taylor would achieve this honor is not all that surprising. Before the game even started, Taylor already led the league in virtually every metric there is for running backs. He has racked up the most rushing yards (895), rushing scores (12), and all-purpose touchdowns (14) through Week 9. Those numbers will (obviously) only get even higher after Week 10.

This isn't the first time there have been parallels between Taylor and James; this season alone, Taylor is the first Colts running back to have three or more rushing touchdowns in multiple games, a feat Edgerrin James achieved in 2000.

For his part, James played seven of his 11 seasons with Indy, for 9,226 rushing yards and 64 rushing touchdowns. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2020, and his 9,226 rushing yards remain the highest in Colts history. Regardless of whether Taylor beats that record, too, James will always have a status as a Colts legend.

Still, Taylor is making his mark, too, and he's rebounded in a major way this season. 2021 was arguably his best season, with injuries slowing him down in 2022 and 2023. Last season, he returned to form, and this year, he's even better — he officially broke 1,000 yards for the season with this game — and is possibly the greatest Colts running back of all time.
