Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is making an impact on the offense during the 2025 NFL season. Whether he's blowing through holes created by an ever-improving offensive line or bouncing outside the tackles for a big gain, JT is proving his position is key to powering the offensive juggernaut that is the 2025 Indianapolis Colts.

Just how impactful has his play been through Week 7? Taylor leads the NFL in several categories. JT tops all running backs with 697 yards on the ground and is the NFL leader with 10 rushing touchdowns, and he is the first player in Colts history with three games of three or more rushing touchdowns in a single season.

Think about that last stat for a moment. Taylor made Colts franchise history less than halfway through the 2025 season. If we were to ask Jonathan Taylor how important that is to him, he would most likely say he is focused on the success of the team instead of personal accolades. Yet, it's his solid play that helps the offense explode.

Indianapolis Colts' Jonathan Taylor proves his team can run and pass to beat the NFL's best

That's because a good running game opens up the passing game since the opposing defense focuses on stopping the run. Quarterback Daniel Jones can recognize this and look for the open man downfield for a long gain. Keeping the defense guessing provides more scoring opportunities for the offense.

Jonathan Taylor has been more than beneficial in pass protection as well. One needs to look no further than the Week 7 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers for proof. The Colts were facing 3rd down and 17 yards to go when Jones dropped back to pass.

Taylor made a chip block on elite pass rusher Khalil Mack, which allowed Daniel Jones to complete a 48-yard pass to wide receiver Alec Pierce. Indianapolis would complete the drive with a touchdown en route to a 38-24 win.

During the 2023 off-season, there was a contract dispute between Taylor and the Colts' organization. Taylor was given permission to seek a trade, but nothing materialized. The two sides ultimately agreed on a deal to keep the running back a Colt. Fortunately for Indianapolis, JT is proving he is worth the investment.
