Jaire Alexander could land in Indianapolis after Packers trade bombshell

Let's face it: the Indianapolis Colts need a lot of help on defense. Thanks to Chris Ballard's terrible philosophy on trades and free agents, there has not been much new talent added to the Indianapolis roster, with Ballard focusing on retaining current players and finding rising talent in the draft. What that has led to, though, is a team with so many needs to address that it would make anyone's head spin.

One of the biggest areas the Colts need to address is at cornerback, and the Green Bay Packers may have just given the Colts a huge gift: they're looking to trade Jaire Alexander. What was initially a rumor has now been confirmed by Ian Rapoport, and this is huge news for Indy.

As Rapoport said, Alexander is young -- just 28! -- and one of the best cornerbacks likely to be available this offseason. He made the Pro Bowl in 2022, and the biggest issue he's faced in recent years is injury; he hasn't been able to remain healthy. That's a problem for sure, but a healthy Alexander is a dynamic player, and the Colts need someone who can make a major difference for them on defense, and especially in the pass rush department, where they're currently struggling.

Currently, the Colts only have Kenny Moore II as a reliable corner; they also have Jaylon Jones and Juju Brents battling it out, but the latter are both young and inexperienced, with Brents in particular facing his own injury issues. Alexander could not only provide that explosive presence the Colts defense needs, but he can also bring experience and leadership - two more qualities the Colts defense are said to be severely lacking. Alexander likely wouldn't cost the Colts too much money, so it seems like a no-brainer to take Alexander off Green Bay's hands as a way of starting to fill the countless holes they have on defense.
