As it turns out, wide receiver Alec Pierce really did want to come back to the Indianapolis Colts. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Pierce has agreed to re-sign with Indy for four years and $116 million. That's a lot of money, but he would have made that in lots of places.

Now, Pierce has to be the true WR1 that Indianapolis needs. He supplanted Michael Pittman Jr. as the team's top option in 2025 with his ability to get deep, while also growing his route tree to include more crossing patterns.

How the team is going to afford him and Daniel Jones isn't known yet. The team doesn't have the cap room for Pierce, which might mean releasing Pittman soon. This, of course, means that the Pierce signing will likely be followed quickly by other breaking Indy news.

Indianapolis Colts agree to terms that will bring wide receiver Alec Pierce back

The positive is that bringing Alec Pierce back appears to indicate the Colts are confident they can re-sign Jones, too. That might happen soon.

At least, Indianapolis Colts fans can relax a little bit, and maybe Chris Ballard had a plan all along. Had the team lost Pierce and potentially Daniel Jones in free agency, the team would have been looking at a devastating offseason that had long-lasting effects.

Now that Pierce appears ready to be back for four years, Jones might be one of the team's next moves, and hopefully for multiple seasons. The Jones and Pierce connection should continue to devastate the league for many years.
