Adonai Mitchell has always been an enigma wrapped inside a riddle wrapped inside a terrible Indianapolis Colts player. He seemingly is more concerned about his own statistics than helping the team. The issue is that he doesn't help the team that much.
Case in point, Mitchell catching a pass in stride, outracing the Los Angeles Rams defense in the third quarter while the Rams led 13-10, and apparently turning the catch into a lead. Only, it wasn't. Mitchell, proving he wants to celebrate things that aren't done, pulled the ball out a few yards ahead of the end zone and fumbled.
The ball went threw the end zone for a touchback, and the Rams took over. It is the kind of play that Mitchell will never live down and shouldn't. The replay will be shown to young children everywhere on what not to do. It was the definitive AD Mitchell play.
Indianapolis Colts' Adonai Mitchell defines his career in Week 4
The wide receiver hadn't been targeted much through three games, and that may be because he doesn't run routes well. He also is seemingly the kind of player who shows great raw skills in practice, but when the bright lights of the NFL come on, he cannot do much. He was a second-round pick in 2024 and is very much bordering on being a bust.
The real shame is that he is stepping in for receiver Alec Pierce, and Pierce was trending toward having the best season of his career. He still might. He suffered a concussion in Week 3 and hopefully will be healthy enough to return in Week 5.
OH NO! 😱

When he does come back, he needs to step back in and take the reps that Mitchell had in Week 4. The Indianapolis Colts receiver room runs six deep, but really, that is five. Adonai Mitchell is on the team, but shouldn't play.
That is, unless the Colts want to risk a player thinking they are doing something so great that they forget to finish the play. Adonai Mitchell's bumbling a touchdown isn't going to hurt the Colts' postseason hopes. Not yet anyway. If Indy does make the playoffs, hopefully Mitchell doesn't play.
Update: The Colts lost to the Rams 27-20. Mitchell made another player that cost his team seven points when he was called for holding on what would have been a Jonathan Taylor 53-yard touchdown run.
