Indianapolis Colts legends Reggie Wayne and Adam Vinatieri were both shockingly snubbed in last season's Hall of Fame vote, despite making it to the final round. The Colts have a strong presence in Canton, with legends like Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Tony Dungy already inducted.
In 2026, they could have another chance to finally get the recognition they deserve. The first list of nominees have been whittled down to 52 modern-era players to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The full 50-person Hall of Fame Selection Committee will next choose 25 semifinalists before another vote further reduces the list to 15. The new class will then be chosen at the annual meeting before the Super Bowl.
Once again, the Colts have several nominees, including Vinatieri and Wayne. Four Indianapolis alums will have the chance to have their names enshrined forever as one of football's greats, and fans will undoubtedly be rooting for them.
Reggie Wayne and Adam Vinatieri headline Colts’ Hall of Fame hopefuls
In a press release, the latest list of nominees was announced. Colts alums nominated are wide receiver Reggie Wayne, kicker Adam Vinatieri, defensive end Robert Mathis, and quarterback Philip Rivers.
Rivers is most well-known for his time with the Los Angeles Chargers, but played his last season in Indianapolis. It was his 12th season with 4,000 or more passing yards, tying with Drew Brees for third in NFL history, behind just Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Altogether, he finished the 2020 season with the Colts with 4,169 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
However, as noted, Rivers is not known as much for his time with the Colts, so Indy fans won't be as excited to see his induction as the other three.
Robert Mathis
Defensive end Robert Mathis is nominated for the fourth time and was a semi-finalist each time. He spent his entire 14-year NFL career with the Colts. He is the all-time NFL leader in forced fumbles (52) and strip-sacks (47), was named All-Pro twice, and played five times in the Pro Bowl.
After retiring, Mathis remained with the Colts, this time joining the coaching staff as a pass rush consultant. In 2020, he was inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame.
Reggie Wayne
Wayne is one of the best wide receivers of all time, and yet has still not been inducted into the Hall of Fame - despite six previous nominations, which have occurred every single year he has been eligible. He is currently the wide receivers coach for the Colts, and, as with Mathis, spent his entire career in Indianapolis.
Wayne's career is truly legendary; in the regular season alone, he racked up 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns. In the postseason, he is in the top 10 of all time for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
Adam Vinatieri
Vinatieri, widely known as one of the best kickers in NFL history, was nominated for the first time last year, and wasn't accepted. He's been nominated again this year, though as a kicker, he has a tough road ahead of him to be inducted, as kickers typically aren't recognized. Currently, there are only two - Jan Stenerud and Morten Andersen - ever inducted.

Vinatieri spent 24 years in the NFL, and played for the Colts from 2006 - 2019. During his career, he had 29 game-winning kicks, including in Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVIII, and is the NFL's all-time leading scorer, with 2,673 points.
