The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 was revealed last night, and both of the finalists from the Indianapolis Colts were snubbed. In September, eight Colts alums were nominated as part of the 167 original nominees. A screening committee reduced the nominees to just 50, before the full 50-person Hall of Fame Selection Committee chose 25 semifinalists. A second vote from the full committee then confirmed the 15 finalists, which included wide receiver Reggie Wayne and kicker Adam Vinatieri.
While other members of the AFC South were initially nominated, the only finalist alongside Wayne and Vinatieri was Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor. Vinatieri especially was widely believed to be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, but neither Wayne nor Vinatieri were chosen, in a completely nonsensical snub.
In a press release, the NFL announced that just four finalists were chosen to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- Eric Allen
- Jared Allen
- Antonio Gates
- Sterling Sharpe (senior)
Unsurprisingly, the decision did not go over well with everyone.

This was the sixth year that Wayne has been a finalist without being inducted, and Vinatieri's first.
Wayne spent his entire NFL career with the Colts, and in the regular season alone, racked up 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns. In the post-season, he is in the top 10 of all time for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. He is still part of the Colts team, now as wide receivers coach.
According to @pfref, Reggie Wayne has the 11th-best Hall-of-Fame case for any wide receiver EVER. Snubbed once again. pic.twitter.com/07goWBAoJf

Sterling Sharpe is going into the Hall but Reggie Wayne isn’t? pic.twitter.com/BUUIv0UCt3

Sterling Sharpe getting in the HOF before @ReggieWayne_17 is hilarious pic.twitter.com/cd0UnlctpP

How is Adam not a first ballot HOF?? How is Reggie Wayne still waiting? Lmaoooo ok

I’m sorry, I know that Sterling Sharpe’s career was derailed by injury, but he’s not a HOFer at the WR position over Torry Holt and Reggie Wayne. Antonio Gates over ELI, a 2x SB MVP?! I have to stay this is the first class where I don’t get it.

Vinatieri is one of the best kickers of all time, and spent most of his career in Indianapolis. He is the NFL's all-time leading scorer (2,673 points) and a three-time first-team AP All-Pro. He had 29 game-winning kicks, including in Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVIII, in the course of his 24-year career. Vinatieri's snub is, for now, being described as a symptom of a wider problem: that the Hall of Fame committee does not value specialists. Only two kickers have ever been inducted: Jan Stenerud and Morten Andersen.
The decision not to induct him in the Hall of Fame was widely criticized.
Adam Vinatieri not being a first-ballot Hall of Famer is a disgrace.

This is still the best kick in NFL history, for my money. pic.twitter.com/Y5gu33nJOs
Adam Vinatieri not being a first ballot hall of famer is a disgrace.

The best kicker in history.
Just say you don’t value kickers pic.twitter.com/cHVSZiKakd
If you’re the greatest of all time at your position, you should be a Hall of Famer

I understand that there’s a stigma surrounding specialists in Canton; however, Adam Vinatieri should’ve been a first-ballot HOF’er
All-time leading scorer, multiple Super Bowls, epitome of clutch pic.twitter.com/WN0tjIlEuq
Hey @NFL how the hell is @adamvinatieri not a first ballot Hall of Famer?! Just because he’s a kicker?! Dude has the most points in NFL history and won multiple Super Bowls with his foot. #NFLHonors #ForTheBrand

The NFL Hall of Fame selections last night were a travesty:
— John Frascella (Football) (@NFLFrascella) February 7, 2025
✅Eric Allen was a solid player, but literally at the BOTTOM of my list for this class
✅Terrell Suggs was ALWAYS a better player & pass rusher than Jared Allen
✅Eli Manning & Adam Vinatieri both should have been in pic.twitter.com/vLNJBzwyBS
How in the world did Adam Vinatieri not make the hall of fame this year? Shameful - highest scoring playing in NFL history. Make it make sense.

Everyone is talking about how Eli Manning didn't get into the Hall, but nobody says the same about Adam Vinatieri. He's the greatest and most clutch kicker in NFL history!

I have a different stance than most on specialists getting into the HOF, but he deserves the nod.
