Linebacker Jaylon Carlies had to leave the Colts-Dolphins game in the second quarter with an ankle injury, in a blow to a Colts defense already plagued with injuries. Earlier this month, the defense lost Tyquan Lewis to the injured reserve, joining DeForest Buckner, Juju Brents, and Samson Ebukam.
The Colts were already down one linebacker -- EJ Speed -- going into the Dolphins game, and Carlies was making the first start of his career in Speed's place. Unfortunately, that game was over all too quickly, though Carlies had played impressively to begin with. He made five tackles and the first sack of his career before being taken off the field.
Special teamer Grant Stuard had been playing in the strong side linebacker spot, but after Carlies left the game, he moved over to the weak side. Segun Olubi took over for Stuard; neither Olubi nor Stuard has played on the defense this year.
So far this season, Carlies has had 16 tackles and one pass defensed.
