Indianapolis Colts defensive end Tyquan Lewis has been placed on injured reserve, with defensive tackle Adam Gotsis elevated from the practice squad to the active roster.

Lewis was injured in the Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which Gotsis also played in, with he and David Long, Jr. filling in for Kenny Moore II and Kwity Paye. Lewis has played with the Colts for seven seasons, but has been plagued with injuries: a broken foot, a high ankle sprain, and torn patellar tendons in both knees.

Sunday, Lewis left the game temporarily with a calf injury; he re-entered the game, and then went down with an injured elbow.

Gotsis played three years for the Denver Broncos before being placed on the injured reserve after having to undergo knee surgery. After recovering, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and played there until 2024; in the 2023 season, he played all 17 games, and had 26 combined tackles, 4 pass deflections, and one sack. In August, his contract was waived by the Jaguars, and he signed with the Colts practice squad in September.

He netted one tackle in his debut with the Colts on Sunday.

The Colts defense has already been decimated by injuries; Lewis will join DeForest Buckner, Juju Brents, and Samson Ebukam on the injured list. However, Kwity Paye and Kenny Moore II will be rejoining the team after missing Week 4, according to the newly-released Week 5 depth chart. Meanwhile, the Colts will likely be looking to Laiatu Latu and second-year defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore to help Gotsis fill Lewis' shoes.

Early in the season, the Colts defense struggled, particularly in stopping the run. They performed better in Weeks 3 and 4, but the last thing they need is to regress due to injuries, particularly against the winless Jacksonville Jaguars.
