The final candidates have arrived for the 2025 NFL Draft. As we have mentioned throughout the series, we are at the point of the draft where you are looking for potential, fit, and talent. Most players are looking to make the team via special teams, or even a camp injury. Plenty of the 7th rounders have made NFL teams, but it’s always a long shot. The term “best player available” is permissible when you get to this round. Let’s dive into the final two candidates of the series as we will begin to build an official mock draft as the April draft approaches.

Jimmy Horn Jr/WR-Colorado

The wildly undersized prospect rounds out the receiver group. The Colts struggled with depth behind Josh Downs. They had Ashton Dulin handling the duties along with the inconsistent rookie Anthony Gould. We saw Gould inactive most of the season for unspecified reasons, and was not able to carve out a real role outside of the return game on special teams.

The strengths of Horn include his speed and ability to be a high-volume offensive player. Steichen has yet to find that true “gadget player,” like a Darren Sproles type. Horn can make that type of impact. He is not a true #1 receiver because of his size, and he was overshadowed by teammate Travis Hunter during his time at Colorado. Ballard has always talked about obtaining players that can create explosive plays, and Jimmy Horn Jr has that rare ability that this franchise can take a chance on this late in the draft.

LaCarea Pleasant-Johnson/CB-Southern Utah

Let’s take a shot with the final candidate in this series. It’s more likely that Pleasant-Johnson is undrafted, but there is some nostalgia with this candidate that Owner Jim Irsay may overrule Ballard for the final draft pick. The prospect is the nephew of former Colts head coach and hall of famer Tony Dungy. To prove how much he might be a real candidate, it is reported that the Colts brass met with him after the Tropical Bowl. This bowl is the senior bowl for FBS schools.

On top of the nostalgia factor, the prospect had his best season to date. He did bounce around with Utah and UNLV before settling in at Southern Utah. He had a solid season with 26 tackles in 10 games for Southern Utah. He has the size to make an NFL roster, but he would most likely be a developmental depth piece for this football team. He can play both outside and nickel cornerback positions. This deep in the draft, the team can take the risk of player in need of development.
