Colts Draft Series: Day 3 Candidates Begin
As we enter Week 13, by this time we have seen where the needs of the current roster are. We also begin to see if this same regime will be drafting in April. At this moment, it seems to be a toss-up1, but if the Colts can finish strong and keep the playoff pace, they will likely bring back the same staff. Obviously, there are always some changes, but right now it’s truly 50/50. This final month of the season will be huge in deciding who will be drafting this team next season. Let’s continue the content series and start with the Day 3 prospects.

Round 4/Pick 114
The Indianapolis Colts Select
Keon Sabb/Safety- University of Alabama
Day 3 is a perfect spot for this still-developing safety. Sabb is currently on the Alabama football team, and played his high school football at IMG Academy. He signed with the University of Michigan, and was part of the Big Ten and National Championship team. He later transferred to Alabama after the departure of Jim Harbaugh to the NFL. Sabb was one of the key transfer portal recruits that new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer was able to secure.
No matter who is drafting for the Indianapolis Colts next season, Sabb has the size and experience that NFL front offices look for. His measurables are 6’1 and 203 pounds. He has seen time as a safety and slot corner in college. He was used in nickel packages mostly in his career. He has the speed and athleticism to play on Sundays. He has now played for two major programs and has played in big moments, which is needed in this win-now NFL environment.
The Colts will be looking to build more depth in the secondary with this pick, but we could also see Sabb help in another spot as well. While this franchise loves WR Ashton Dulin and his special team’s talents, at some point, they may need to look elsewhere for his special teams' spot. Many of these Day 3 prospects will have to support their roster spot by being able to play special teams. Dulin is the “gunner” on this Colts team, and is a free agent after this season. If Dulin looks for a bigger role in an offense, then he could be elsewhere next season. Sabb could not only be a secondary depth piece, but a potential replacement for Dulin on special teams.
