The Indianapolis Colts have announced they are in the market for a quarterback once again in 2025, as GM Chris Ballard confirmed that his team wants to get some competition for former No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson. After a rough 2024, that line of logic is unimpeachable.
The 2025 NFL Draft has often been derided for a supposed lack of high-end quarterback talent. However, this class has some intriguing options in the later rounds, which could be ideal for a Colts team that is likely to use their top picks on more pressing needs.
Colts fans should start keeping tabs on these three NFL Draft prospects, as any one of them could come to town if Indianapolis is sick of Richardson and wants to possibly begin the end of that era. Richardson will know he is not guaranteed much of anything if one of these three come to town.
3 quarterbacks Colts could add in 2025 NFL Draft to push Anthony Richardson
3. Kurtis Rourke, Indiana
Rourke led the Hoosiers to their best football season in program history, though his ACL injury will likely limit him to the Day 3 range. With some questions about his mobility and deep ball accuracy, there are reasons that Rourke has started to take a bit of a slide this season.
Those concerns could be overruled by looking at his exceptional accuracy, picture-perfect mechanics, and savvy football brain. If Rourke's knee is healthy, the older rookie could hit the ground running and become someone Richardson has to worry about immediately.
2. Will Howard, Ohio State
Howard has been shooting up draft boards after leaving Kansas State for Ohio State, as the Buckeyes signal-caller was instrumental in pushing his team towards an improbable national championship. A 6-5 quarterback with good mobility and arm strength, Howard checks the boxes Indianapolis looks for when scouting quarterbacks.
Ultimately, the lack of one trait that will knock evaluators' socks off might work against Howard. Even with physical tools that are far from exceptional, Howard's more controlled style of play could be more appealing for an Indianapolis team who bought one too many tickets for the Richardson coaster.
1. Jalen Milroe, Alabama
Milroe is this year's version of Richardson in that his production was average, but he will still end up being picked high in the draft due to his physical tools. With elite athletic ability and a mortar tower of a right arm, Milroe has many of the same traits that appealed to Indy when they took Richardson.
While some Colts fans may not be all in on the idea of drafting another raw player like Richardson, one suspect pick might not be enough to completely uproot Ballard's entire philosophy when it comes to drafting players. Milroe's ceiling is as high as any player in this class, which will appeal to Indianapolis.
