The Kansas City Chiefs just lost the Super Bowl in stunning fashion, shocking the country at just how badly they played. But while the Chiefs didn't perform up to their regular fashion, it's still the truth that they are arguably the only dynastic team in the NFL right now. Yet the 2024 season is now over, and every team - including the Chiefs - is now going to have to contend with free agency. This is a particularly big issue with the Indianapolis Colts, as general manager Chris Ballard has notoriously been stingy about pursuing and signing free agents, to the detriment of his own team.

Ballard has promised that he has learned his lesson, but Colts fans won't know for sure until the free agent market is in full swing. Part of that should be considering which free agents from the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs to pursue, which could hopefully add some veteran leadership to areas of need on the Colts roster.

Here are some free agents from the Chiefs that the Colts should consider signing.

Justin Reid, safety

Safety is one of the Colts' major needs on defense, as there really is only one reliable safety on their roster right now (Nick Cross). More depth at this position is desperately called for, and Reid is a strong, reliable player who can not only give that depth, but can provide much-needed leadership on defense.

There are some notoriously talented defenders in Indianapolis - Zaire Franklin, DeForest Buckner, Laiatu Latu, to name a few - but there have also been problems with ego and discipline, and Reid could help. He's an underrated player, despite having helped the Chiefs get to the Super Bowl numerous times, and his leadership and reliability will make him a valuable target for many teams - and the Colts should make sure they keep him on their radar.

Keith Taylor, cornerback

Cornerback is another area where the Colts need some depth, and Keith Taylor could be a good option. Originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers, he has been with the Chiefs since 2023; this most recent season, he was originally on the practice squad, and then promoted to the active roster in October. He will be a restricted free agent, so he can sign offers with other teams, but the Chiefs have the option to match it, and if they do, the player has to stay with his current team.

Taylor has some issues with consistency, but overall, he's known to be a strong and capable player with a lot of versatility, and could fit in well with Kenny Moore II and Jaylon Jones.

Charles Omenihu, defensive end

Omenihu, a Houston native, was originally drafted by his hometown team, and playing for the Texans was initially a dream come true. What caused the relationship between Omenihu and Houston to turn so acrimonious is not clear, but he was traded to San Francisco, and made his feelings about the Texans clear. “I’m gonna make this clear: I don’t f*** with the Texans organization at all," he said. "And I cannot wait to play them boys. I literally cannot wait.”

He eventually landed with the Chiefs, and he had a career year in 2023 despite having been suspended over the league's substance abuse policy. He spent much of 2024 on injured reserve, but was able to play again starting in November, and was notoriously seen crying on the sidelines during the Super Bowl.

Omenihu is a good pass rusher, and can be a good rotational player for the Colts - and his hatred of the Texans could make playing for a division rival of theirs appealing for him.
