After going undrafted, Kenny Moore has blossomed into a star with the Indianapolis Colts. Is he the best-undrafted player in the NFL?

In 2017, Kenny Moore was just an undersized defensive back coming out of Valdosta State trying to make the NFL. Now, in 2022, he is one of the best players in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts. However, his path to this status wasn’t an easy one, as his NFL career started with him not being selected in the 2017 Draft.

After going undrafted, Moore signed with the New England Patriots and he had a well-publicized terrible time in Foxborough. Despite playing well, the Patriots released Kenny Moore during final roster cuts and he was claimed by the Colts. He found a home in Indy and has since developed into a star.

Moore has started the last four seasons with Indianapolis and was given a big contract extension back in 2019. He also made his first Pro Bowl last season and has established himself as the best slot cornerback in football. Now, there’s a discussion about Moore possibly owning another title. The title of best-undrafted player in the NFL.

Recently, Michael Robinson, former NFL running back and current analyst for NFL Network, ranked the top 10 undrafted players currently in the NFL. Kenny Moore came in at No. 2 on the list, trailing Los Angeles Chargers corner, JC Jackson.

Kenny Moore ranked second-best undrafted player in NFL

Like Moore, JC Jackson went undrafted, but in 2018, and he also signed with the New England Patriots. He would make the team and emerge as a top corner for New England, specializing in getting his hands on the ball. Through his first four seasons, Jackson has recorded 25 interceptions, and that’s why he was a big free agent target this offseason.

While he’s good, there’s a conversation to be had on whether or not he’s better than Kenny Moore. Although both are defensive backs, Jackson is an outside corner, and Moore is considered a nickel. Because of the nickel designation, Kenny Moore is typically asked to do much more for his defense.

Regardless of who’s given the top spot, both guys can say that they’ve beaten the odds and have gone from being undrafted to being well-paid top players in the NFL.
