NFL experts rank Colts quarterback Matt Ryan in the top 10 of three important categories
NFL experts recently ranked quarterbacks in various categories and Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Matt Ryan, was present in the rankings.
As the NFL regular season approaches, the final offseason lists are being revealed before they go under construction with the start of a new season. One of the latest lists comes from ESPN and it’s a ranking for quarterbacks. However, instead of just listing quarterbacks by their overall rank, ESPN decided to break things up into categories.
Polling 12 NFL analysts, the experts were asked to rank the top 10 quarterbacks of 12 different categories. The categories ranged from things like accuracy and arm strength to scrambling and rushing. Based on the lists of the 12 analysts, ESPN was able to finalize a top 10 for each category.
The Indianapolis Colts, who’ve had a frustrating quarterback journey over the last five years, were represented on the lists by the newly acquired Matt Ryan. Ryan received votes for several categories but he made the official top 10 in three of the sections.
Ryan was ranked No. 9 for his quarterback mechanics, No. 9 for his field vision, and No. 9 for his pocket presence. Nines across the board, but experts agreed that parts of Ryan’s game are still top 10 in the league.
ESPN’s experts still think highly of Matt Ryan
Although Matt Ryan is now 37 years old and is entering his 15th season, his inclusion in these lists aligns with everything that’s been said about him since he arrived in Indianapolis. The Colts are confident they have a quarterback that’s still performing at a quality level and that he will be able to help lead them to victories.
While the categories that Ryan made may not be flashy ones like arm strength and running ability, they are important categories that should help Matt Ryan be a quality quarterback for the Colts. Especially field vision and pocket presence.
Indianapolis doesn’t have the best pass-blocking offensive line or the best set of receivers. That means the team will benefit from a quarterback that knows how to maneuver in the pocket and find the open man. As long as Ryan can avoid taking unnecessary sacks and get the ball to his playmakers when they do get open, the Colts should be able to have a good year offensively.
