Colts DEs Kwity Paye and Al-Quadin Muhammad must step up to beat Cardinals

Indianapolis’ young defensive ends, Kwity Paye and Al-Quadin Muhammad, have been playing well this year, but on Saturday, they will be up against a different beast and will be tasked with containing Kyler Murray.

Murray is special in a lot of ways, but one of the things that makes him so dangerous is his ability to break contain, and extend the play. He can take off and run to gain yards which is frightening enough, but even scarier is when he escapes the pocket, keeping his eyes downfield allowing his receivers to ad-lib before he heaves it to them for a big play.

Many teams have failed to prevent this from happening and that’s why Arizona has been successful. If Indy wants a chance to win, they’re going to have to limit these types of plays.

The key to limiting these plays is responsible and technical play from the defensive ends. Paye, Muhammad, and any other edge rushers for the Colts have to be aggressive in their pursuit of Murray but they also must be under control and make sure not to rush past him.

If they do a good job of keeping him in the pocket, they will eventually be able to get to him and either sack him or force him into bad throws.

This all is easier said than done but these are challenges that Indy will have to meet if it wants to win another huge matchup. The Colts were able to overcome all the challenges last week, now they must do it again and keep the train rolling.
