2. Colts should pursue CB Carlton Davis

The secondary has been one of Indianapolis’ weakest units this season. While they have been taking marginal steps to improve, it’ll be best if the Colts retool in the off-season.

Fortunately, this is a deep free agency class for cornerbacks, so the Colts will be able to make a run at multiple options and see who chooses to come to the Circle City. The corner that should be at the top of the team’s list is Carlton Davis.

Davis is a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was a big part of the top-10 ranked defense that won them a Super Bowl in 2020. He is currently playing on the last season of his rookie contract and will look to be compensated like a top corner during free agency.

Staying in Tampa makes a lot of sense, but it’s likely that decision will come down to finances. The Buccaneers have a ton of talent and they won’t be able to keep retaining them all unless everyone takes pay cuts. It’ll be nearly impossible to repeat 2020’s spree that included retaining everybody they intended to.

If the Bucs are unable to meet Davis’ contract demands, and choose not to franchise tag him, the Colts should immediately get in touch with his representation. Adding a player like Davis to the back end of a defense with a promising front sets Indianapolis up to dominate for the future.
